FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

Worshiping together
On several occasions each year (such as Candlemas, Mothering Sunday, Harvest Festival, and St Peter’s Day) the whole church family of all ages, including our uniformed organisations, are encouraged to worship together at the 9.30a.m. service. On these Sundays the service last about forty-five minutes and its content and style are prepared with children in mind. For more details see our Special Services [link to Special Services] page.

For children
Our Sunday Club meets most weeks during Term Time. Children aged three years old and upwards are very welcome. Our team of volunteer teachers undergoes accreditation training and CRB Enhanced Disclosure checks. The children follow a programme based on the readings from the Sunday services and this includes worship, games, craft, and other activities. They join the 9.30a.m. congregation for the last part of the service.

For families
Family Praise service takes place on the first and third Sundays of most months in Portland Centre. This provides a less formal atmosphere than church itself, and children are encouraged to make as much noise as they like! There is a twenty-five minute service which includes an activity for the children, a talk for the adults, together with songs and prayers. Afterwards there is a chance to meet over refreshments.

In the week
SPRATS – St Peter’s Rascals (Adults and Toddlers) meets on Thursday mornings (9.45 – 11.15a.m.) in Portland Centre for conversation, games, and activities. Often there are visitors from the health, child care, and support sectors. This popular group provides an excellent space for children to play together while parents and carers have a chance to chat! Booking essential – contact the Parish Office for details.

Uniformed organisations
A number of Scout and Guide groups for varying ages are connected with the Church. For more information contact the Parish Office.
