St Peter’s is part
of a local, national, and global family of other Christians. In
the local area we are part of Churches
Together in Broadstairs and St Peter’s
a gathering of Christians from across different churches in our
area. The churches of the Church of England in this area are part
of Thanet Deanery and
along with several other deaneries are part of the Diocese
of Canterbury Canterbury’s mother church is Canterbury
Cathedral and the Archbishop
of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, is our diocesan bishop, leading
270 parishes across east Kent.
The Church of England, the church to which we belong, serves the whole country and is led by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.
There is information and statistics about the Church of England today here www.cofe.anglican.org and on its history here www.cofe.anglican.org.
The Archbishop also leads a global network of Churches called the Anglican Communion which are churches all over the world connected to the Church of England. One of the main features of the Communion’s life is the ten-yearly gathering of Anglican bishops and their spouses from across the world; this is called the Lambeth Conference and takes place in Canterbury in 2008. |
